What does streaming a model's answer actually improve?
Answer out loud or in your head first, then compare.
Answer
The user can start reading before the whole answer exists. That improves the perceived wait, but it doesn't have to speed up finishing the generation or the tools' work. Retrieving sources can still happen before the first fragment.
Not every operation should act on a partial result. When creating a request, I need complete, verified data before I write anything. Sometimes it's better to show a progress message than half an unverified answer. I also have to handle an error after the transmission has started — the client may already have text even though the whole task failed. Such a result must not automatically count as complete.
Why it matters: Separates presentation speed from a business result being ready.
Possible follow-ups: What will you show the user after generation is interrupted halfway?
How did it go? Be honest — “Not yet” puts the question on your review list.
